US body weights, gym equipment, product weights and shipping rates are usually given in pounds (lb or lbs). A standard 45 lb plate is about 20.4 kg, and “1 lb of ground beef” in a recipe is about 454 g. Converting to kilograms makes those numbers easier to compare with metric labels.
Formula: kg = lb × 0.45359237. Example: 150 lb = 68.04 kg. Table values are rounded to two decimal places (one for temperatures); use the converter above for more precision.
Halve the pounds and subtract 10%: 150 lb ÷ 2 = 75, minus 7.5 gives 67.5 kg, close to the exact 68.04. One pound has 16 ounces, so “5 lb 8 oz” is 5.5 lb, about 2.49 kg.
