Weight conversions come up more often than you might expect: overseas products listed in pounds (lb) and ounces (oz), gym plates marked in pounds, a 23 kg baggage allowance that becomes 50 lb on a US airline, recipes that switch between grams and ounces. This tool lists kilograms, grams, metric tonnes, pounds, ounces and two traditional Taiwanese units, the catty (jin) and tael (liang). Type a number in any field and the others update instantly, with up to six decimal places.
The international definitions are fixed. One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg (set by international agreement in 1959), one ounce is 1/16 lb, about 28.35 g, and one tonne is 1,000 kg. For mental math, remember that 1 kg is about 2.2 lb, so 70 kg is about 154.3 lb; going the other way, multiply pounds by 0.45 to estimate kilograms. Note that the tool’s tonne is the metric tonne, not the US short ton (about 907 kg) or the British long ton (about 1,016 kg).
The ounce here is the everyday avoirdupois ounce. Precious metals use the troy ounce, about 31.10 g, so gold prices per ounce do not convert with the 28.35 g figure. Stones, still used for body weight in the UK, equal 14 lb, about 6.35 kg. The Taiwanese catty is 600 g and equals 16 taels of 37.5 g each; the mainland Chinese jin is 500 g and the Hong Kong catty about 604.79 g, so always check which one a price refers to.
When comparing prices across package sizes, convert everything to the same unit first. All conversions here run instantly in your browser. For length, area or temperature, use the matching converters on this site.
