When sending quotes, design proposals, internal decks or copies of ID documents, a watermark such as “Confidential”, “For XYZ use only” or your company name makes the document’s nature and permitted use clear. It discourages forwarding and misuse and makes unauthorized leaks easier to trace. This tool adds the same text watermark to every page of a PDF, no Acrobat required.
Built-in presets cover common texts such as copy-only, ID-use and confidential labels, and you can edit them, for example to add the recipient and date. There are two layouts. “Tile” repeats the watermark diagonally across the whole page, which is hardest to crop or paint out and suits ID and sensitive documents. “Center” places one large watermark in the middle, which interferes less with reading and suits drafts and proposals. Opacity ranges from 10% to 90% (30% by default) and rotation from −90° to 90° (−30° by default), with a live preview alongside.
The watermark text is first drawn as a transparent image in your browser and then placed on every page, so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly regardless of PDF built-in fonts. The original text layer is kept, so the document stays searchable and copyable. Because the watermark is an extra layer, someone skilled at editing PDFs could still remove it: it is a deterrent and a label, not encryption. To restrict opening or printing, use our PDF security tool as well.
For PDFs with an open password, the tool asks for the password first. Everything is processed in your browser and documents are never uploaded. For ID photos in image format, use our image watermark tool instead.
