A grid split cuts one large image into equal tiles. Posted to Instagram in order, the tiles reassemble into the full picture on your profile grid. It works well for brand walls, campaign key visuals, portfolios and travel panoramas: visitors opening your profile see one big image, which is far more memorable than a single post.
The tool offers five layouts: 3x3 (nine tiles), 3x2 (six), 3x1 (a horizontal triptych), 2x2 (four) and 1x3 (three stacked vertically). An Instagram profile always shows three posts per row, so 3x3, 3x2 and 3x1 line up perfectly on your profile; 2x2 and 1x3 suit carousel posts or other platforms. Upload an image, choose a layout, preview the cut lines, then download every tile in a single ZIP.
The key detail is posting order. The newest post appears at the top left of your profile, so you must start with the bottom-right tile and finish with the top-left one. The tool numbers the files in upload order, so you simply post tile 1, then 2, and so on, without working the order out yourself.
Before splitting, crop the source to the layout’s proportions, for example square for 3x3 and 3:2 landscape for 3x2, so the subject is not pushed to an edge. Instagram’s profile grid now shows taller thumbnails that may trim the edges, so keep important text away from cut lines and borders. All cutting happens in your browser with Canvas and the image is never uploaded.
