Taiwan Chinese Capital Numerals (大寫金額) Rules

Taiwan cheques, receipts, and triplicate uniform invoices require anti-tamper Traditional Chinese financial numerals (零壹貳參肆伍陸柒捌玖拾佰仟萬億兆) to prevent post-signature alteration. This converter supports up to 9,999 trillion (兆), optional 新臺幣 (NTD) prefix, 元/圓 currency units, and 整/正 closing characters.

Numbers are grouped by four digits (萬, 億, 兆): consecutive zeros between non-zero digits collapse into a single 零, trailing group zeros are omitted, and leading tens require 壹拾. Whenever an amount has no cents (分), it must end with 整 or 正 to block additions.

Frequently asked questions

Should the capital character for 3 be written as 參, 叁, or 叄?

Taiwan customarily writes 參 for 3, so this converter always outputs 參. When parsing back to digits it accepts 參, 叁, 叄, and 三.

Can a mistake in the amount field of a Taiwan cheque be corrected with a stamp?

No. Under Article 11(3) of Taiwan's Negotiable Instruments Act, only items other than the amount may be rewritten by the original writer before delivery (with a signature). The amount must not be altered, so write a new cheque instead.

What is the difference between 元 and 圓, or between 整 and 正?

Both pairs carry identical legal validity: 圓 is traditional on pre-printed bank cheques while 元 is standard on invoices and receipts. Both 整 and 正 close whole or tenth-unit amounts so extra cents cannot be appended.

What happens if the Chinese capital words and Arabic numerals on a cheque disagree?

Under Article 7 of the Taiwan Negotiable Instruments Act, if the written words and Arabic figures differ, the Chinese capital words legally prevail.
